Seminar by Janine Schmidt: "Changing The Focus Of Library Design"

Özyeğin Üniversitesi
Orman Sk
Nişantepe Mahallesi, Çekmeköy, İstanbul 34794

Janine Schmidt is giving a seminar entitled “Changing The Focus Of Library Design: Ensuring The Facilities Match User Needs And Experiences” on February 9, Tuesday at Özyeğin University. Janine will talk about users' expectations, experience and close relationship issues in library design and space.

All print is becoming low use as scholarly communication goes online. "Screenagers" use information and learn in different ways from previous generations. The use of learning and library facilities is changing fundamentally.  The library still remains the spiritual hub of the university and a physical facility is required for students.  But traditional library design focused on housing collections and accommodating readers may no longer be appropriate.

What do today's users want and need?   What principles should guide us in designing new facilities and re-fitting existing buildings to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow's users?   The session will focus on some library design principles and identify some best practices and approaches which will provide appropriate facilities for the future.
